Why Charity Advice exists
The UK charity sector is vital. It employs hundreds of thousands of people, relies on millions of volunteers, and delivers services that government and business cannot or will not provide. Yet too much of the guidance available to the people running charities is written by lawyers for lawyers — dense, cautious, and hard to act on.
Charity Advice was created to change that. We make the guidance clear, visual, and direct. No filler. No padding. Just the essential information you need to run your charity well and confidently.
What we are — and aren't
We are an independent information resource. We are not a law firm, not a consultancy, and we don't provide regulated financial or legal advice. Everything we publish points to authoritative sources — the Charity Commission, NCVO, HMRC, the Fundraising Regulator and others.
For hands-on support, we regularly point our readers to Trust Advice — specialists in charity governance, CIO conversions, Gift Aid and ongoing support.
Clear
We write in plain English because that's what people running charities actually need. If it's confusing, it's not useful.
Bold
We say what needs to be said. Charity governance can be dry — we make it engaging without dumbing it down.
Free
All guidance on this site is free. Always. Good information shouldn't only be available to well-funded organisations.
